Frequently Asked Questions & Answers:
Canadian Postal Codes:
Q: How many Canadian Postal Codes are there?
A: Currently, there are over 754,000 postal codes. More are added
with just about every new version. The Canadian Postal Code is equivalent
to the U.S. 9-digit code (normally, one postal code may cover one side
of a residential street. A neighbor across the street will usually have
a different code.
Q: I want Canadian latitude and longitude. How accurate are they?
A: The Canadian geocodes are very accurate in the big cities. We
have one geocode (Latitude/Longitude pair) for each FSA code. An FSA
code is the first three characters of the Canadian Postal Code. In the
big cities, an FSA is generally about one to three square miles and
gets larger as you go into the suburbs. For instance, in Montreal we
have over 80 unique points. In Toronto we have about 58 unique points.
Thats just the city, not including the suburbs which have their
own coordinates. We have about 5200 total unique Latitude/Longitude
coordinates for Canada.
Q: Can I use your data in a store locator?
A: Yes. Many customers are using this data in a store locator. You
just need to purchase the base product and the latitude / longitude
data.
